Cheers to 35 years of success!

Our journey began in a humble two-room office above a butcher’s shop, where our Managing Director, Simon Stone would spend evenings carefully packing boxes with Tombow ABT Brush Pens using the day’s newspapers.

From those humble beginnings, we’ve grown into one of the UK’s largest distributor of fine writing, stationery and design-led gift brands. Here’s to many more years!

Q&A with Simon Stone

You set up Stone Marketing 35 Years ago. What has been your proudest moment?

Still being in business with a great team after all these years, securing the distribution for Faber-Castell 25 years ago and selling 200 pairs of leather travel slippers to a Japanese bank in our first year!!

Anything you miss about the early days?

Packing orders!!

Biggest challenge to date?  

UK run on the pound in 1992, Covid and the latest cost of living crisis.

Best advice you have been given?

Delegate!!! You know when this has happened when a photocopier arrives without your knowledge.

Funniest moment at SML to date?

So many!! In our first office we shared a building with a number of businesses and every afternoon there was an accountant who went to the loo and stank the building out! Having fun dinners, discussing age with our friends from MT and explaining what a Scotch egg is.
